Working on Christmas

The toughest part of this job is convincing anyone you're actually working. Snide comments abound. Sympathy for sunburn and line cuts is hard to come by. But if fishability is the goal, you have to field test your rods someplace with a wide variety of fish and fishing situations. If that place just happens to have palm trees and sunshine, so be it. Maybe the guy who shoots photos for sports magazine swimsuit issues would understand. Everyone else just has us pegged as fishing-bum slackers living out the ultimate angling fantasy in some tropical, South Pacific paradise. Which, in fact, isn't really that far from the truth.

This is Christmas Island, after all.
