Rob likes long walks on the beach, sunsets, fine wine and feels just as comfortable in a tux as Carharts…. S**t, wrong profile, but we can make it work. Yeah, he likes long walks on the beach – chasing blitzing stripers. Sunsets – of course, while waiting for a spinner fall on the Henry’s Fork. Fine wine – is that another word for coffee or beer? Tux or Carharts – Only if the tux is a Redington Sonic Pro Waders and Jacket.
Having my best friend tail a 20lb steelhead that I just swung up. Being voted by peers to represent them as a board member of the American Fly Fishing Trade Association.
Snake River and its tributaries.
Trout. Steelhead after Elk season. Salt and warm water species are a great excuse to get out of town in the off season.
Huge supporter of Trout Unlimited, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers and Wild Steelhead Coalition among others.
philosophy on fly fishing
The days of fishing for food is done, so as an angler, I like to focus on the day, my surroundings and the beautiful places fishing has brought me. The number of fish caught does not matter at the end of the day. Great company (or solitude, depending on the day), a beautiful cast, fishing my own hand crafted flies and the hope of seeing and learning something new is how I measure success.
perfect set up
My perfect setup for fishing the Snake or South Fork of the Snake out of a boat is not limited to a single rod. The SAGE 690 Method, 4200 series reel spooled with a RIO InTouch Grand line is perfect for casting big foam dry flies to the bank, hopper dropper combos or switching over to streamers if the fish are not looking up and what a bigger meal. Getting out of the boat to fish risers feeding on PMD's in the riffles allows me to use one of my favorite fly poles of all time, the SAGE 586 X, Click reel and RIO InTouch Trout LT. This setup is perfect for the wading angler looking to lay down the perfect cast with small dry flies and have the strength to fight larger fish.
